PD2 single player or PlugY
PlugY is not the PD2 ladder. It is a single-player stash extension. PD2’s own single player, since Season 11, already has shared stash and material pages. The PD2-PlugY fork adds still more pages and, per the FAQ and the repo, those extra pages do not coexist with the built-in shared stash. You choose.
I put the offline guide’s three modes next to this comparison so I would not describe PlugY as “PD2’s single player.” Since Season 11 the launcher shortcut for the fork needs -plugy. The FAQ also shows a -3dfx form. Back up the Save folder before either switch. The Season 11 patch explicitly enables offline shared stash, despite a stale conflicting paragraph on the Seasons overview. That advice is the FAQ’s, and I am repeating it because the failure mode is a lost character.
Comparison
Do not confuse map access with the Season 9 change allowing Uber Tristram to open in single player without PlugY.

Questions
Do I need PlugY to play offline?
No. The launcher’s single-player mode is the supported offline path. PlugY is optional and incompatible with the shared pages.
Can I turn PlugY on later?
Back up saves and the Diablo II folder first. The repo is the install source. Do not drop random PlugY DLLs onto a Season 14 folder.
