Comparisons
PD2 next to the mods people confuse with it
Four comparisons are worth a page. Path of Diablo is another mod on classic Diablo II. Resurrected is a different game. D2R Reimagined is a mod for that different game. PlugY is a single-player stash tool. Path of Exile and Diablo IV are not installs of PD2.
I refused a player-count column. None of the homepages I checked publish a comparable population. A table with a blank cell is honest. A table with a rounded guess is not.

FrankieFresh compares D2R and PD2. The install rule is still the official one: PD2 does not run on D2R. Upload date (YouTube metadata, single source): 2023-09-16. Choosing Sides: Diablo 2 Resurrected or Project Diablo 2? on YouTube. The player loads only after you press play.
Questions
PD2 versus Path of Exile?
Path of Exile is a separate game from Grinding Gear Games. PD2 is a mod for Diablo II. They do not share characters, stash, or an installer. Pick the one whose season you actually want to play. There is no shared ladder.
PD2 versus Diablo IV?
Diablo IV is a different Blizzard game. PD2 does not install into it. The download page is classic Diablo II plus Lord of Destruction only.
