Single player
Can you play Project Diablo 2 offline?
Yes, with a limit. Single player is a mode in the launcher. It is not the same as the ladder, and it is not the same as the community PlugY fork. The wiki Seasons page states single player is unavailable during beta and may also be unavailable between season end and open beta; it is not an always-available offline promise. The wiki season page says single player is unavailable during beta and can also be unavailable between a season end and the next open beta.
I split the FAQ’s offline section from the PD2-PlugY readme before writing the steps. People mash those together and then lose the shared stash pages. The Season 11 patch explicitly enables offline shared stash and says PlugY disables it. The Seasons overview still contains a conflicting old “not enabled” paragraph; the dated patch is the basis here. The FAQ says and the shortcut has needed -plugy since Season 11.
Three ways to play
Keep the names separate or the save advice on the FAQ will not match what you click.
| Mode | What it is | Maps |
|---|---|---|
| Ladder and non-ladder | Online realm. Shared stash follows season rules. | Available on the realm |
| Single player | Launcher mode. Shared stash and material pages arrived in Season 11. | Available in single player; no verified introduction date |
| PlugY fork | Community mod. Extra stash pages. Launch with -plugy. Conflicts with shared stash. | Use the fork’s own notes |
Save locations and separate mods
The FAQ puts PD2 saves in the Save folder of the Diablo II install. They are not in a ProjectD2 folder and not in the Diablo II Resurrected saved-games path. Launching Resurrected can rewrite that other directory. It should not be where your PD2 characters live.
Single Player+ is a separate community mod. No current Single Player+ release was verified in this audit. It is separate from the official single-player mode and the PlugY fork; check its own release documentation before changing saves.

Questions
Can I open maps offline?
Maps belong to single-player endgame, but this audit did not verify their introduction season. The Season 9 no-PlugY sentence refers to Uber Tristram.
How do I start PlugY?
The FAQ and the PD2-PlugY repo say to back up saves, use that fork, enter single player from the launcher, and add -plugy. The FAQ also shows a -3dfx form of the shortcut. Read the repo before you overwrite a live install.
Do ladder characters move to single player at season end?
Ladder characters move to non-ladder. Items left in shared stash pages do not. That rule is on the wiki Seasons page and is not an offline-only trick.
