PD2 does not run on Resurrected

Name: Choosing Sides: Diablo 2 Resurrected or Project Diablo 2?
Uploaded: 2023-09-16T14:35:34-07:00
Description: FrankieFresh compares D2R and PD2. The install rule is still the official one: PD2 does not run on D2R.

You cannot point the PD2 launcher at a Diablo II: Resurrected folder. The download page requires classic Diablo II and Lord of Destruction; the FAQ explicitly says not Resurrected. The Support FAQ says it requires a legitimate legacy Diablo II and Lord of Destruction install. TheGamer describes the same split: PD2 is the 2000 client. There is no secret D2R edition in those sources.

I checked whether buying Resurrected includes the classic keys. The FAQ still sends you to buy legacy Diablo II and Lord of Destruction. I am not quoting a sale price. None of the pages I used printed one on 28 October 2026.

Side by side

These rows are the documented ones. Taste is your problem after the install works.

Facts from the download page, the FAQ, the homepage, and the charms wiki
	Project Diablo 2	Resurrected
Client	Legacy Diablo II + LoD	The remaster
PD2 launcher	Installs into the legacy folder	Will not use this folder
Sunder Charms	Not implemented	Part of the remaster
Corruptions and maps	PD2 systems	Not these systems
Seasons	PD2 ladder, Season 14 Alliance	Blizzard’s own ladder

Which to play

Play Resurrected if you want Blizzard’s client and its items. Play PD2 if you want the legacy client, the PD2 season, and the systems on the homepage. FrankieFresh’s 2023 video is a preference piece. The install rule has not become optional since that upload. Saves do not move between the two. The FAQ puts PD2 saves in the legacy Save folder, not in the Resurrected saved-games directory.

Watch

FrankieFresh compares D2R and PD2. The install rule is still the official one: PD2 does not run on D2R. Upload date (YouTube metadata, single source): 2023-09-16. Choosing Sides: Diablo 2 Resurrected or Project Diablo 2? on YouTube. The player loads only after you press play.

Questions

I own Resurrected. Can I install PD2?

Only if you also own classic Diablo II and Lord of Destruction. The remaster folder is the wrong target.

Will PD2 get a Resurrected version?

The download page and the FAQ do not announce one. I am not predicting it.
