Project Diablo 2 on a Mac

There is no macOS download on the official download page, and the Support FAQ has no Mac heading. People run the Windows build through a compatibility layer. The writeup with steps and recent comments is a Reddit thread from November 2025 that uses Porting Kit and a D3DMetal engine. It is one thread plus comments, including M4 and M5 reports.

The two Reddit links returned HTTP 403 on 28 October 2026. The Porting Kit steps below preserve the earlier research record of a single community guide; they are not a newly verified S14 procedure. The CrossOver claim is also an unverified single-post report, so it cannot establish that CrossOver is generally broken or that Porting Kit is the better option.

Porting Kit path, as the thread describes it

This is the November 2025 post, not an official installer. You still need a legal Diablo II and Lord of Destruction.

  • Install Porting Kit and make a custom port.
  • Choose an engine build whose name includes D3DMetal, and set the Mac driver the post names.
  • Install the Steam and OpenAL pieces the post lists.
  • Run the Diablo II installer, then Lord of Destruction, then the PD2 installer, in that order.
  • Point the port at PD2Launcher.exe.
  • The post says .NET 6 is part of the trouble. The Windows FAQ asks for the .NET 6 Desktop Runtime too.

What I am not claiming

Andrew Tsai’s M1 video is from 26 November 2021. Treat it as history. A 2020 Japanese blog tried WineSkin and CrossOver and ended on Ubuntu in a virtual setup. That blog is five years older than Season 14.

I found no 2026 writeup for Intel Macs that I could verify. Boot Camp is not in this guide. CrossOver on Season 14 has one black-screen report. If you try it anyway, that thread is the thing to read before you reinstall.

Questions

Does PD2 run on a MacBook?

Not as a native app. The documented community route is Porting Kit with D3DMetal, from the November 2025 Reddit thread. Success reports in the comments include M4 and M5 machines.

Should I use CrossOver in Season 14?

One recent thread reports a frozen black window that draws when unfocused. That historical single-post report was inaccessible in this audit, so it does not establish whether your current setup will work.
