Lutris and Wine
Project Diablo 2 on Linux
Linux is in the Support FAQ, with screenshots of Lutris. scambier’s note, updated 7 August 2026, is the second writeup: a Lutris install, SteamPD2.exe, wine-ge-8-26, and where saves landed. You are still installing the Windows game and a legal CD key.
I did not paste apt and pacman lines from a blog I could not match to the FAQ. The FAQ’s screenshots show Lutris wine-version menus. If your distro is not Debian-family or Arch-family, I do not have a tested command for it. Use the FAQ’s dependency list and your distro’s names for those packages.
Keep optional DLL advice separate
scambier’s optional d2fps.dll section explicitly says it was not authorized on PD2 servers as of 7 August 2026 and prevents online play. The installation guidance here does not recommend adding that DLL to an online client. This restriction has one source: that author’s note.
The path both sources share
Install Lutris. Pick the wine version the FAQ screenshot and scambier’s note agree on where they overlap. Point it at the PD2 launcher after Diablo II and Lord of Destruction are installed in the prefix. The .NET 6 Desktop Runtime from the Windows FAQ still applies inside the prefix. Antivirus exclusions do not, but prefix permissions do. If the launcher cannot find game.exe, check the install path, whether the first auto-update completed, and missing or quarantined files; the message alone does not prove a path error. That error string is on the Windows FAQ too.
Dependencies
The search “linux dependencies” wants a package list. The FAQ is the list that will be updated. I am not inventing a 2026 package version for lib32 that the page does not print. scambier names wine-ge-8-26 specifically. That is a documented runner pin, not a current-release guarantee, not a PD2 release number. The mod itself does not publish a Linux build version on the download page.

Questions
Is there a native Linux client?
No. The download is the Windows launcher, run through Lutris or Wine, which is what the FAQ documents.
Where are saves?
Inside the Wine prefix, in the Diablo II Save folder, matching the Windows FAQ. scambier writes the prefix path that worked on that machine.
